Technip Energies announces that the Coral Sul floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) unit, has set sail for Mozambique on November 16, 2021.
The FLNG was constructed by the TJS consortium led by Technip Energies and composed of JGC Corporation and Samsung Heavy Industries. TJS has designed, engineered and built the unit which is now sailing away to Mozambique where Technip Energies and JGC Corporation will be in charge of the commissioning, start-up and operation until provisional acceptance.
Construction began with the official steel cutting in September 6, 2018 followed by the launch of the hull in January 14, 2020. At 432-metre-long and weighing in at about 140,000 tonnes, the Coral Sul FLNG was towed from the SHI shipyard in Geoje, South Korea, for the next phase of the project: hook up and commissioning.
As part of Technip Energies’ commitment towards local content in Mozambique, the company will leverage his Mozambican workforce in support of the next phases of the project. The local engineers who were trained by the consortium partners throughout the project development stages have been integrated in the different activities related to the mooring, hook-up and commissioning activities with varying function from subcontracting, planning, maintenance and personnel logistics.

The plant will be the first ever FLNG built for deep waters and the first built specifically for Africa.
Designed for water-depths of 2,000 metres, the Coral Sul FLNG facility will produce 3.4 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG. It will be operated by ENI for the next 25 years.
